Nerdsense Drinks – Episode 11 – Breakside IPA

What?!?!! Two Nerdsense Drinks episodes in one week?! I know it’s crazy but we felt with Beer Advocate’s Extreme Beer Fest coming up this week, we would release two videos.

In this episode of Nerdsense Drinks we review Breakside’s IPA.  Breakside Brewery is out of Portland, OR and we can thank Mike’s good buddy Spencer for sending this to us to try.

Style: India Pale Ale

Notes: Look: Burnt orange Nose: Sweet malt, grapefruit, pine. Taste: Good hop and malt balance. crisp and easy on the palate .

Episode 54 – No News means Beer News

It’s a slow news week in regards to nerdy things but that doesn’t stop Mike and Shaun from trekking through and discussing some upcoming beer fests and brewery tours. They scrape together a bit of nerd talk but for the most part this is a fairly beer centric conversation.

Notes: Look – Golden, filtered. Nose – tropical, piny and malty. Not as exciting for something you’d expect from a Stone and Sierra collab. Taste – smooth, clean, juniper berry, bitter

 

Tomoka Brewing Oceanside White IPA

Style: IPA
Container: 12oz Can
Glassware: Firestone Walker Tulip and Tulip
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 4/5
Notes:Look – Golden, sort of unfiltered, good head retention Nose – Lemon and other citrus.  Taste – sweet but still some good hop character with little bitterness

Notes: We love the Morph series at Nerdsense. Some have been great, some have been good, 1 or 2 didn’t really hit home for us but this batch hits the spot. Juicy and malty but still great. There is a strange after taste that lingers which gave it a lower rating

Episode 53 – Drinking in the New Year

In the latest episode of Nerdsense, your hosts give a shout out to some of the highlights of the past year, talking about some of their favorite movies, video games and albums.

They also discuss the latest Deadpool trailer and finally get around to talking about the latest Mission Impossible film, Rogue Nation.

It’s a pretty informal conversation, and the boys definitely get their buzz on, but it’s lively and fun, with an over abundance of f-bombs courtesy of Mike. It’s the year end episode and they do not disappoint.

Notes: Great great DIPA from Night Shift. This has what we want. Juice, hops, super floral citrusy punch

Lawsons Sip of Sunshine

Style: IPA
Container: 16oz Can
Glassware: Spiegelau Pilsner Tulip
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 4.5/5
Notes: Unfortunately this can has been sitting in the fridge for awhile. While Sip of Sunshine is one of my favorite beers, this was muted and less than fresh. Granted it’s still tastier than alot of other IPAs!

Sam Adams Rebel Raw

Style: Double IPA
Container: 16oz Can
Glassware: Firestone Walker Tulip
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 4/5
Notes: Really hoppy, juicy and great malt balance.

Nerdsense Drinks Episode 4 – Ecliptic Canopus IPA

Another Portland Oregon IPA thanks to Mike’s buddy Spencer. We really enjoy these Northwest IPAs. They’re different enough from the normal East & West coast IPA’s we normally consume.

Notes: Light and crisp. Awesome citrus malt balance. Super smooth. Floral and grapefruit on the nose

Nerdsense Drinks – Episode 2 – Sam Adams Rebel Raw

Wow! We did another video! I will say, editing audio is far easier than editing video.

Mike got his hands on the latest from Sam Adams. First off, this beer has definitely caused some conversations on the interwebz when it was first announced. When Sam Adams first announced this beer, it was pretty clear they were going after the Vermont IPAs you find in cans and are supposed to “Drink Fresh”

It’s pretty much what they did and for a company as large as Sam Adams they pretty much did just that. This is by far one of their best brews in years. It’s hoppy, it’s juicy, the nose is outstanding.

Afterthought

After having this and the Grapefruit Rebel a few weeks back, I’m hoping Sam may start doing some more interesting brews.
