Well here’s another big one folks! We’ve got Russian River Pliny the Elder!
Style: Double IPA
Container: 500mL Bottle
Glassware: Balloon glasses
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 3.75/5 Notes: Pliny the Elder is brewed with Amarillo, Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe hops. It is well-balanced with malt, hops, and alcohol, slightly bitter with a fresh hop aroma of floral, citrus, and pine.
We have a special treat for everyone this week! Mike and I go behind the camera and MC what very well be the greatest blind taste on the entire internet!!! Just kidding, but we do have a blind taste test that we found pretty fun to record and think it’ll be fun to watch.
Mike and I didn’t think it was fair to do this blind taste test ourselves as we could easily pick out the two since we’ve had Heady so much and the taste is extremely different. Instead of comparing the two which is like comparing apples to oranges these days, we thought we’d bring in a panel of outside judges.
We have (from left to right in the video) my lovely girlfriend, Kerry, Melanie from Melly Mel’s Cookin and our semi-frequent guest and Mike’s brother, Josh.
All 3 of them did a blind taste test about a year ago. Kerry and Melanie chose Pliny and Josh Picked Heady. Let’s see what they pick this time.
There’s a new man with the “S” on his chest. CW’s “Supergirl” hired their new Superman and Nersense bats around the various depictions of Kal-El on screen, from early pioneers like Kirk Alyn and George Reeves to more modern interpretations like Tom Welling and Dean Cain.
Grimm is a little brewery out of Brooklyn run by a husband and wife duo. They build their recipes in their kitchen then brew the recipes at other breweries. Gypsy brewing. This is one of my first beers by them and I was so happy we got to try it.
Style: Dry Hopped American Sour Ale
Container: 22oz Bomber
Glassware: Teku Glasses
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 4/5
Notes:Hazy golden wild farmhouse ale, dry hopped with Mosaic, El Dorado, and Jarrylo. Beautifully balanced acidity, glowing hop aromas redolent of guava, watermelon candy, pineapple, and ripe mango. Conditioned on oak for light tannin structure.
Style: IPA
Container: 16oz Can
Glassware: Tulips
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 4.25/5 Notes:This lupulin-laden India Pale Ale is packed with juicy tropical fruit character, bright floral aromas and delectable layers of hop flavor. Pour mindfully, inhale deeply and enjoy a tropical vacation in a glass.
Mike and I went to see Hollywood Babble-On this past Friday so we couldn’t record a podcast so we decided to record a carcast on the drive into Boston!
The audio isn’t the best but it’s our first shot at a “mobile” podcasting rig. Its listenable. We discuss the passing of Muhammad Ali, X-Men Apocolypse, MallBrats and DC’s Rebirth!
This week we are joined by our good friend Larry who came all the way from North Carolina to be on the videocast! Well, he didn’t come for that reason but I bet he’s glad he visited because we have something really GREAT…you may even say it’s so GREAT that even people named KATE think it’s GREAT!
Ok, that last line was really lame but in all honesty we pop open a bottle of Tributary Brewing Mott the Lesser. Hopefully you got my joke up there, I feel like I’ll just cheapen it if I try to explain it.
Style: Russian Imperial Stout Container: 16oz Can Glassware: 2016 Night Shift Barrel Society snifters Notes: Spring 2016 Batch – Aged in apple brandy, port, bourbon, and Mount Gay rum barrels before blending. Rating: 4.75/5
Mike and I actually weren’t going to record a podcast this past Friday. We instead decided to use the time to restructure how we have our video and podcast table setup.
If you’re curious about podcasting and how to get started then listen in! If you’re just curious how we’ve evolved and what equipment we currently use then this is the podcast for you!
This is a first! Morph rolled off the canning line the same day we recorded our review! Couldn’t get any fresher unless Night Shift let us drink it from the spout! *hint hint*
Style: IPA Container: 16oz Can Glassware: 2016 Night Shift Barrel Society snifters Notes:Balancing the best qualities of Cascade, Simcoe, and Columbus hops; dank aromas of pine and orange peel, and sips with notes of melon and lime (6.5%)(Night Shift tasting notes) Rating: 4.25/5
We’ve got a collaboration between an awesome local brewery and an awesome local craft beer store! This is a barrel aged version of Mystics Day of Doom!!
Style: Belgian Quad Container: 25oz Bottle Glassware: Teku glasses Notes: Boasts flavors of raisin, plum & dates and marries them with vanilla, and toasted coconut on the finish. The lighter carbonation of this release makes for a silky body with a creamy mouthfeel that is great on its own but will pair wonderfully with your favorite dessert.(From Redstones website) Rating: 4.5/5
