Episode 54 – No News means Beer News

It’s a slow news week in regards to nerdy things but that doesn’t stop Mike and Shaun from trekking through and discussing some upcoming beer fests and brewery tours. They scrape together a bit of nerd talk but for the most part this is a fairly beer centric conversation.

Notes: Look – Golden, filtered. Nose – tropical, piny and malty. Not as exciting for something you’d expect from a Stone and Sierra collab. Taste – smooth, clean, juniper berry, bitter

Tomoka Brewing Oceanside White IPA

Style: IPA
Container: 12oz Can
Glassware: Firestone Walker Tulip and Tulip
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 4/5
Notes:Look – Golden, sort of unfiltered, good head retention Nose – Lemon and other citrus. Taste – sweet but still some good hop character with little bitterness

Nerdsense Drinks – Episode 6 – Night Shift Morph Batch 12/29/2015

Notes: We love the Morph series at Nerdsense. Some have been great, some have been good, 1 or 2 didn’t really hit home for us but this batch hits the spot. Juicy and malty but still great. There is a strange after taste that lingers which gave it a lower rating

Nerdsense Drinks – Episode 5 – Sierra Nevada Narwhal vs Barrel Aged Narwhal

This week the boys do a head to head against the mighty Narwall! We pit Sierra Nevada’s Imperial stout vs it’s barrel aged cousin in a head to head show down!

Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Narwall

Style: Barrel Aged Imperial Stout
Container: 22oz Bomber
Glassware: Firestone Walker Tulip and Tulip
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 5/5
Notes: Nose – Bourbon (Duh!) Vanilla, sweeter aroma, caramel and chocolate makes the sweetness. Flavor – Chocolaty and much sweeter with less coffee than the regular Narwall. Lots and lots of bourbon

Sierra Nevada Narwall

Style: Imperial Stout
Container: 12oz Bottle
Glassware: Firestone Walker Tulip and Tulip
Overall Nerdsense Rating: 4.5/5
Notes: Smells mellow coffee, very boozy on the nose, cocoa. Taste is dark chocolate, coffee, boozy without a burn in the back

Narwall + Barrel Aged Narwall Blend

Notes: Milkshake or Sweet Stout. This takes the harshness out and it’s extremely smooth. The smell isn’t much but the flavor is great!

Nerdsense Drinks Episode 4 – Ecliptic Canopus IPA

Another Portland Oregon IPA thanks to Mike’s buddy Spencer. We really enjoy these Northwest IPAs. They’re different enough from the normal East & West coast IPA’s we normally consume.

Overall Nerdsense Rating: 3.75/5
Notes: Light and crisp. Awesome citrus malt balance. Super smooth. Floral and grapefruit on the nose

Nerdsense Drinks – Episode 2 – Sam Adams Rebel Raw

Wow! We did another video! I will say, editing audio is far easier than editing video.

Mike got his hands on the latest from Sam Adams. First off, this beer has definitely caused some conversations on the interwebz when it was first announced. When Sam Adams first announced this beer, it was pretty clear they were going after the Vermont IPAs you find in cans and are supposed to “Drink Fresh”

It’s pretty much what they did and for a company as large as Sam Adams they pretty much did just that. This is by far one of their best brews in years. It’s hoppy, it’s juicy, the nose is outstanding.

Afterthought

After having this and the Grapefruit Rebel a few weeks back, I’m hoping Sam may start doing some more interesting brews.

New Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice Trailer!

Here it is boys and girls! The 2nd official full length trailer for next years behemoth, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice!

It’s a pretty revealing 3 minutes. We learn that the villain, well one of them at least, is Doomsday who is created from the deceased Zod. Granted, the trailer could be misleading so we’ll have to wait until March to see how that really plays out.

We also see our three heroes team up versus battling each other with a little humor sprinkled in for good measure.

Captain America: Civil War Trailer is here!

The first trailer for Civil War dropped last night on the Jimmy Kimmel show. It was brought by Tony Stark and Steve Rogers themselves, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.

It gives us our first action shots of Black Panther alongside all the other characters we’ve been watching over the years.

A familiar face that we haven’t seen since the 2008 Incredible Hulk returns. William Hurt will be reprising his role as General “Thunderbolt” Ross!

This is the best way for Marvel to launch Phase 3 of the MCU. I don’t think anything will be the same after this.

We’ll be discussing this on Episode 49 of Nerdsense which we’ll be recording on Friday. Jason will be back with us to discuss this explosive trailer!

Nerdsense Listens – Episode 2 – The Tale of the Wrestler and the Rapper

Holy shit shaft Batman!! A new Nerdsense Listens?! This can’t be right, there hasn’t even been a regular Nerdsense in 3 weeks!!!

I know, we’re just as shocked as you! As I mentioned on the Social Mediaz, we are getting some new equipment and while testing it we decided to do an impromptu episode of Listens due to the shorter length than a normal Nerdsense.

Before you ask, no, this was not recorded using the new equipment as the testing didn’t go as well as we had hoped. The new equipment will debut on the next Nerdsense Podcast which should be recorded this upcoming Wednesday!

In the meantime let Mike and I tell you about a band fronted by a wrestler and a metal band fronted by a rap star! Your faces will most likely melt off.
